General Information

Library Renovation Plan

The proposed library renovation will give students a better place for learning, collaborating, and studying. In order to pave the way for the space necessary for this better learning environment a large scale weeding/storage project will need to be completed. The main goal of any weeding/storage project will be to maintain a high level of access to quality research materials for students, faculty and staff. At the same time, we do have items, both scholarly and popular, which will need to be relocated and/or removed. The library will need everyone’s help to accomplish this goal. We will continue to maintain our reciprocal borrowing agreements with Mercer, Middle Georgia State College, and GPALS libraries.

2nd Floor
Decisions about storage or removal need to be made by Division and/or department with faculty and librarian input.

  • Reference
    • Eliminate and/or create a small Ready Reference
    • Move some books to circulation
    • Remove reference items that have same title in circulation (this has been done to some extent)
    • Heavily weed out-of-date information (using same criteria for book weeding)
    • Look towards creating a e-reference collection
  • Periodicals
    • Using the 2016 Journal Review look at the titles that have access in JSTOR and GALILEO
    • The average turn around time for articles requested via ILL is 1 day.
    • There are quite a few journals that are obsolete and/or in very bad condition on the shelves.
