Willet Library Markerspace Policy and Guidelines
The Makerspace is open the following hours during Fall and Spring semesters. Additional hours may be available upon consultation with library staff. You must attend a maker training session prior to using the equipment in the Makerspace. All hours are subject to change. Please sign in/out on the provided log. *24-Hour badge access is available once training is completed.

Failure to adhere to Makerspace guidelines may result in a ban. Library staff reserves the right to refuse access to any patron who fails to comply to the policies and safety guidelines. The library is not responsible for any items damaged or left behind. Please be mindful of other users and their needs in the space.
Usage
- All Wesleyan College students, faculty, and staff may use the Makerspace with a valid college ID. Alumnae access is available during operating hours. All users must participate in a training session before being allowed to use the space.
- Users must sign in and out of the Makerspace every time they use it.
- Users must reserve equipment before using the Makerspace if it is an extended project. Check availability of equipment prior to coming to the library, even for short projects. All equipment is listed on the Library reservation system.
- No tools, equipment, or supplies, may be removed from the Makerspace without prior approval. Some consumables may be available for removal if you have not completed your project. Please check with Library or Makerspace staff for approval.
- Please make sure all equipment is in good working condition prior to starting a new project. Alert library or Makerspace staff if you are having trouble with the equipment. Please leave the equipment and room in the same condition you found it. Any work saved on the computer in the Makerspace will be deleted at logoff and will not be recoverable.
- You may not use the free consumables (vinyl, yarn, fabric, and other items) for commercial gain. You may bring your own supplies in if you wish to make limited items to sell. See a librarian if you plan on using the equipment in this way.
- Remember that this space is for everyone. Be mindful of the fact that others will want to use the equipment and materials as well.
What We Expect
- Users must sign in and out of the Makerspace every time they use it.
- Users are responsible for turning off and returning equipment to the proper storage spaces. Failure to do so may result in loss of access to the Makerspace.
- Before you leave the room, make sure the workspace is clean so that others can use it.
- Take your materials with you when you are finished. Willet Library is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items.
- Headphones are not allowed for safety reasons. Music may be played at a reasonable volume. If it is bothering others, please lower the volume or turn it off. If it can be heard outside of the space, you will be asked to turn it off.
- If you notice failure to use equipment/materials properly, please see a Librarian immediately.
- If you notice any broken equipment, please notify a Librarian immediately.

- Fabric, zippers, buttons, and other accessories may be available. These consumable items are available through donations. You are encouraged to bring your own project materials.
- Embroidery Machine - requires training session
- Accessories include needles, embroidery hoops, thread, bobbins, stabilizers
- Some fabric may be available. You are encouraged to bring your own project materials.
- Cricut Maker - vinyl Cutter - requires training session
- Accessories include blade, mats, vinyl,
- Permanent, removable, and iron on (HTV – heat transfer vinyl)
- Cricut Light Box
Accessories
The Makerspace is fully equipped with supplies and accessories needed to sew and/or craft items. These items belong to the Makerspace and may not be removed at any time:
- Rotary Cutters
- Self-Healing Mats
- Scissors
- Rulers
- Iron & Ironing Board
- Cricut accessories, including brayer, weeding tools, pens, extra blades
- Glue gun & sticks
Other items
From time to time, as donations arrive, you may find other items in the room:
- Knitting needles
- Crochet hooks
- Yarn (this is a free consumable and may be used for projects in the space…do not remove yarn until project is complete without prior approval).
- Books & Magazines – for Makerspace use only
- Patterns - for Makerspace use only
Consumable Supplies
Some supplies in the Makerspace are considered consumables. Many of these supplies are donated and may be free. However, be respectful that other patrons may need to use items as well.
You may not use the free consumables (vinyl, yarn, fabric, and other items) for commercial gain. You may bring your own supplies in if you wish to make limited items to sell. See a librarian if you plan on using the equipment in this way.

Safety
If Librarians determine that behavior or use of equipment is unsafe, we reserve the right to remove your name from the list of approved persons to use the space for the rest of the semester.
- You must sign up for a 30-minute training session with a Librarian before being allowed to use the Makerspace.
- Be aware of all first aid, fire, and safety equipment.
- Only water bottles with tops are allowed in the Makerspace. Please put any other belongings such as book bags, purses, or lunch bags in a locker across the hall. Food is not permitted in the Makerspace.
- If you are having issues with any equipment, please see a Librarian immediately.
- You must properly turn on and turn off all equipment every time you use it.
- Never leave the Cricut EasyPress or iron on and unattended as they reach very high temperatures.
- In case of an emergency, call Campus Police (757-5145) and notify a Librarian immediately. All accidents or injuries must be reported to a Librarian.
- If equipment becomes unsafe, immediately discontinue use and see a Librarian.
- If something is out of reach, please use a stepstool. Do not climb on tables or chairs to get them.
- Please be aware of your attire when using the equipment. Loose clothing may be caught on some of the machinery. Be aware of your surroundings.
- Wear appropriate footwear. Closed toe shoes are preferable.
Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights
The following items are prohibited by local, state, or federal law:
- Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
- Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
- In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, you cannot reproduce material subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
