Copyright and Fair Use

For Students

Students are not permitted to share course materials from their classes online. While students can share their own class notes, they may not put anything created by their professors or others onto online platforms like Chegg and Course Hero. The sharing of tests, quizzes, lab manuals, and all other documents and artifacts violates the copyright of the content creator.

For Faculty Members

Professors are encouraged to include language in their syllabi prohibiting the sharing of their course materials to crowdsourced learning platforms like Chegg and Course Hero. This makes it clear to students that sharing copyrighted works will not be tolerated.

If a professor discovers that their copyrighted works have been inappropriately shared online, they should submit a takedown notice to the site. Most of the popular platforms have a simple form that can be filled out by the copyright holder to facilitate the removal of the materials.
