Sublimation Printing

Sublimation printing is a digital printing process that uses heat and pressure to transfer designs onto materials using special inks.

The process involves:

  1. Printing a design onto transfer paper with sublimation toner
  2. Placing the paper onto the material
  3. Using a heat press to heat the paper to around 350–400°F
  4. The heat turns the ink into a gas that the material absorbs, creating a permanent, vibrant print

When used as a dye sublimation printer, please verify the DS CMYK cartridges are loaded into the printer.

The library has a wide variety of materials that can be purchased for use in sublimation. Availability may be limited. Sublimation does not work on dark colors or materials less than 60% polyester. You may also bring your own materials*.
